A First Look

Welcome to my Scotts All-Purpose Flower and Vegetable Continuous Release Plant Food Review. Following the instructions, I applied Scotts All Purpose Fertilizer every 2 months for six months. Just a sprinkle was good enough. I noticed that my plants turned greener and started sprouting faster. The plants flowered a lot more after applying the fertilizer. I do have to mention that the fertilizer did not work well with acid loving plants. For example, hydrangeas.

How Did The Tomatos Like It?

The tomatoes took to the fertilizer well. The skins were almost spotless from marks and a great color. It’s important to know that if you want tomatoes with no bruising or marks, water them consistently. Another good tip with tomatoes is to remove all the dead leaves from the plant to ensure it does not spread. You can also trim the bottom stems to promote vertical growth.

I did not bury or rake the fertilizer into the soil. Over time, I find that it makes its way into the soil from the watering. If you have a drip irrigation system, I recommend raking it into the soil.

Did Scotts Fertilizer Produce More Flowers?

As previously stated, the flowering of all my plants exceeded expectations. Because I grow both fruit and vegetables, it’s important to have pollination attractors as well as sacrificial plants.

The flowers produced were vibrant and smelled great. The best tip I can give for more flowers from a single plant is to remove bloomed flowers regularly to promote growth. Scotts’ all-purpose fertilizer is great for plants that need a balanced nutrient level. Suitable for most plants you can get from your local nursery or plant store.

Final Thoughts

All my plants, besides my acid-loving plants, thrived off this fertilizer. Annuals, perennials, and vegetables all do well with Scotts’ slow-release fertilizer. I applied only a pinch to each plant at a time based on size. If you are unsure about how much to use, I suggest 2-5 small pebbles per gallon of plant.
